SURVEY OF INDIAN CRITICS
"Strengthening our critical community by facilitating communication among us
all."
Spring-Summer-Monsoon 2009
Dear Fellow Critic:
An autonomous group of critics (two of three being professors in India) is
conducting an India-wide survey of critics writing in all the Indian
languages (including English, which likely will be predominant). We are
aiming to send an open-ended questionnaire to anyone
presently active who has published at least one book of criticism (or several
essays) in the past ten or so years. We believe that publishing such a
survey of critical approaches, opinions and projects underway will help to
build a stronger, more productive sense of community among critics within
India. This effect should encourage less dependence on privileged elites
and/or foreign resources, and greater self-awareness, interchange and
cooperation, empowering individual critics and autonomous, more local and
personally satisfying, groups.
